CICA names Towle as president as Harwick steps down

The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) board of directors has named Dan Towle as its new president, to replace the outgoing Dennis Harwick, who will be retiring in June.

Officially joining CICA on April 24, Towle will become the second president in CICA's 45-year history.

Towle has over 17 years of experience in the captive insurance industry, having served as Vermont's chief marketing and and business development professional.

“Dan brings the mix of industry knowledge, passion and new strategies that we felt were the best fit for CICA’s next chapter. He has built strong relationships across the captive industry, and has worked successfully with businesses and captive colleagues to help shape Vermont’s success,” says CICA Board Chair, Michael Bemi, board chair at CICA, and president and CEO of The National Catholic Risk Retention Group.

The announcement was made ahead of CICA’s 2017 International Conference, to be held on March 12-14 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.

Towle commented:“I am both humbled and excited to be CICA’s next President. CICA has a long history of strong leadership, advocacy and providing unbiased information, continuing that tradition and delivering value for our members is a top priority for me.”

Harwick has served as CICA’s president since early 2005, and has taken an active role in both the executive search process and the transition of the new president.

Harwick previously said: “It has been a singular honour and privilege to serve as president of CICA over the past decade of change within both CICA and the captive insurance industry.

“I’ve had the opportunity to make many friends and build partnerships with the various captive domiciles and domicile associations during this time.”

Over 100 applications were received and eight individuals were interviewed for this role.

Formed in 1972, CICA was formed to support and foster the development of captives internationally. It offers alternative risk professional viewpoints on captive insurance and risk retention groups.
