Amazon corporate risk chief to speak at Bermuda Risk Summit

The global head of corporate risk and claims at Amazon will be a keynote speaker at the 2024 Bermuda Risk Summit.

Soraya Wright will close the second day of the 2024 Bermuda Risk Summit, presented by the Bermuda Business Development Agency, in partnership with the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers and EY.

Wright also serves as a California State Commissioner on the fraud assessment committee. Previously, she was vice president of strategic initiatives at RIMS, the risk management society and has worked for Target Corporation and The Clorox Company (for whom she created their captive insurance subsidiary). She has also served on the client advisory board of several notable insurance firms such as FM Global and Willis Towers Watson, and is a frequent speaker on a broad range of risk management topics.

Wright’s keynote conversation will be with Patrick Tannock, CEO of AXA XL Insurance in Bermuda/chair, Association of Bermuda International Companies.

Tannock said: “Bermuda is a dynamic and solution-oriented international business jurisdiction that has fostered a culture based on innovation and calculated risk.

“The Island’s strong, prudent yet pragmatic regulatory framework and speed to market are key attractions for business and have helped make Bermuda a global financial centre and hub for high-quality intellectual capital.”

He added: “The Bermuda market’s ability and willingness to execute quickly to put capital to work to provide solutions to emerging risk issues is uniquely situated. In addition to this, one of Bermuda’s most significant strengths is its adaptability.

“In the face of new risks, the Island’s international business community has consistently demonstrated that it can evolve and respond quickly to meet those challenges and the ever-changing needs of its clients.

“I am looking forward to a thought-provoking discussion with Ms. Wright who is well known and respected in the commercial insurance industry.”

A full agenda is available online. Potential delegates are encouraged to register prior to March 1, the end of the price discount period.

BDA also said AM Best and SS&C Technologies are gold sponsors, Kirkland & Ellis and KBRA are silver sponsors, Demotech, Docosoft, KPMG and Teneo are bronze sponsors, and Aon, Rein4ce and Walkers are supporting sponsors. Bermuda:Re+ILS is a media partner.
