FERMA creates Next Gen Risk Council
FERMA has announced the launch of its Next Gen Risk Council – the first of its kind for the Federation, it said. This new initiative aims to give greater visibility to the next generation of risk leaders and amplify their voice on the European stage.
The Next Gen Risk Council comprises a board of young professionals aged under 35 working to exchange ideas that help shape the future of the profession. It will have a maximum of 15 members drawn from FERMA member National Associations, as well as one FERMA liaison from the Secretariat.
By connecting young risk professionals across Europe, the Next Gen Risk Council aims to foster cross-border collaboration, examining future risks from a European perspective and strengthening FERMA position as a strategic hub for innovation and thought leadership.
The Next Gen Risk Council’s activities will include project-based work on the theme of ‘NextGen Future Thinking and Foresight’. Members will collaborate to produce an in-depth project on ‘Foresight in Risk Management’ and will provide input into FERMA’s education certification process through the lens of those beginning their professional journey. Other activities will include regular online meetings, two annual in-person meetings, and presentation of outcomes at the 2026 Forum in Rotterdam.
Council members will be active risk or insurance managers selected according to criteria including their age, duration of experience, membership of a National Association, and employer support. There will be a focus on achieving diversity across sectors and countries for a broad range of perspectives. Each National Association has the option to submit a maximum of two candidates by the deadline of Wednesday 10 March 2026; FERMA will appoint Council members based on their applications, and possible online interviews.
FERMA president Philippe Cotelle said: “This new initiative sets out to give younger members of the Federation deeper insight into their profession and into FERMA’s work. As well as exchanging knowledge gained in different sectors and geographical areas, members will discuss and envisage possible ways to improve the profession, culminating in presentations at the 2026 Forum in Rotterdam. A key aim is working collaboratively to nurture future talent, enhancing FERMA’s offering to members and to the wider world of risk management.”
