The Georgia Captive Insurance Council (GCIC) has formally announced its launch.
According to the GCIC it serves as the only official trade association and advocacy group for Georgia captive insurance firms and risk retention groups, replacing the defunct Georgia Captive Insurance Association that chose to formally dissolve in 2023.
Former insurance regulator Travis Bowden was elected as the GCIC’s first chairman of the board.
“As the former Supervisor of Captive Insurance and Risk-Bearing Entities for the Georgia Department of Insurance, I know what a vibrant captive insurance domicile Georgia is,” Bowden said. “It’s my intention to build on the previous successes in the captive insurance market in Georgia. Georgia is once again a major player in the captive insurance sector!”
Bowden’s privately-owned company Crossroads Risk Management is the first new captive management firm to be licensed in Georgia in several years. Crossroads is formally approved and licensed in eight American jurisdictions and expanding.
Bowden is a former governmental affairs consultant operating at the Georgia State Capitol. He is also a Certified Insurance Examiner and holds designations including the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) credentials, among others.
“The Georgia Captive Insurance Council’s new board of directors is proudly composed of leaders in financial services, law and accounting”, Bowden continued. “With these skill sets, this is the perfect time to resume issue advocacy for Georgia captive companies, both in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. We’re excited to announce that Georgia captives are back!”
The GCIC is based in Atlanta and plans to share more updates in the coming weeks.
