BMA director Weldon to move into captives role at Marsh

Marsh has recruited Shelby Weldon, the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s (BMA) director of licensing and authorisation since 2006, into its captives business on Bermuda.

Marsh has appointed Weldon as senior vice president (SVP) and team leader in its Bermuda operation.

The high-profile move has been one of the big talking points at the Bermuda Captive Conference last week where the appointment was revealed to delegates.

Weldon, who is currently responsible for the day-to-day management of the licensing and authorisation team at the BMA, will remain located in Bermuda.

Weldon was formerly the inspector of companies in the Registrar of Companies Department. He moved to the Ministry of Finance when responsibility for insurance regulation transferred to the BMA as assistant director with the authority.

Weldon started his career as an auditor with Arthur Andersen (Bermuda) in 1986 before working for Alexander Insurance Managers and Johnson & Higgins between 1990 and 1995.

Marsh commented: “We are delighted that Shelby Weldon is joining Marsh Captive Solutions in August. Shelby will be an SVP and team leader in our Bermuda operation reporting directly to Lawrence Bird, managing director and head of office, and brings enormous industry experience to our group together with being highly respected in our industry.”
