Callan beefs up its alternatives consulting group with two hires


Callan, the institutional investment consulting firm, has hired David Smith and Jonathan Farr to work in its alternatives consulting group.

Smith joined Callan on April 5 as senior vice president, focusing on implementing private markets portfolios, client servicing, strategic planning and manager evaluations.  He is based in Summit, New Jersey.

Smith was previously treasurer for Syracuse University, overseeing all aspects of its treasury and investment strategy and operations management, including its endowment. He also served as treasurer for the university's captive insurance company, as the ex-officio member of the university's board of trustees investment and endowment committee, and as a member of the university's defined contribution committee.

Before Syracuse he was a partner at the private equity firm Bay Hills Capital Management.

Farr will join on May 10 in Atlanta as a vice president and will also focus on private equity and private debt. He joins from Southern Company where he was an investment officer, leading strategic, financial, and legal due diligence for new private markets investments, serving on fund advisory boards.

Prior to Southern Company, Farr was a senior consultant for Value Prism Consulting and an associate with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services.

Both hires report to Pete Keliuotis, executive vice president and head of the alternatives consulting group.
