CICA names 2022 board

Renea Louie, the chief operations officer of Pro Group Captive Management Services, is the new chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA). The organisation announced the appointment along with details of the other members of its 2022 board.

Louie, who manages day-to-day operations of Carson City, Nevada, headquartered captive manager Pro Group, has 30 years of experience and has served on the CICA Board for the past four years.

In addition to Louie, the board elected Nicholas Hentges, CEO of Captive Resources, as vice chair; and Mary Ellen Moriarty, vice president for property and casualty at EEIA, as Secretary/Treasurer. Lance Abbott, founder and president BevCap Management, serves as immediate past chair.

CICA also elected Udo Kappes, head of P&C, employee lines and reinsurance at Airbus Insurance Risk Management, to the board. He is responsible for the group-wide risk transfer of the global property, liability, employee and financial lines and reinsurance solutions. He brings experience from positions at the German property insurance association (Verband der Sachversicherer) and as Daimler Chrysler’s in-house insurance broker. He is also chair of the European Captive Insurance and Reinsurance Owners’ Association (ECIROA).

Several CICA board members also return for 2022: Courtney Claflin, executive director of captive programs at the University of California’s Office of the President; Colin Donovan, president of risk retention group STICO Mutual Insurance Company; Deyna Feng, director of captive programs at Cummins Risk International; Heather McClure, chief risk advisor for the US Healthcare Practice at Aon; Michael Scott, attorney at Allison & Mosby-Scott; and Michael Zuckerman, associate professor at Temple University.

Finally, Prabal Lakhanpal, vice president of Spring Consulting Group, who chairs CICA’s NEXTGen Young and New Professionals Committee, begins his term on the board. Lakhanpal has worked in the captive industry since 2015 and focuses on strategic and innovative alternate funding initiatives related to employee benefits and P&C programs.

“It is an honour and privilege to serve as CICA’s 2022-2023 board chair,” said Louie. “CICA’s strength stems from our members, leadership and staff who are all passionate in serving the industry to create innovation, solutions and progress. The global pandemic has revealed to a much larger universe of business owners the power of captives, and the coming years will bring large growth for the industry. With growth comes new challenges, and CICA remains committed to providing the education, insights, perspectives and best practices in all facets of captive operations, guidance, and leadership needed to thrive.”
