Conyers welcomes partner to corporate practice in Cayman

Conyers Dill & Pearman has appointed Derek Stenson as a partner in the Cayman Islands corporate practice.

Stenson has experience in re/insurance and structured products, and originally trained in the insurance and capital markets practice of a leading Irish law firm before moving to a leading offshore firm in Cayman, where he specialised in insurance, capital markets and general corporate and finance matters.

He has advised a range of international financial and insurance institutions on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance law and regulation. He has experience in advising on insurance M&A and corporate finance transactions, repackagings, CLOs, portfolio transfers, restructurings, stock exchange listings, mergers, migrations, contractual negotiations and regulatory and compliance matters.

“We are delighted to welcome Derek to the firm. I have known him personally for some years and his background, particularly in insurance and reinsurance, makes him a custom fit for us. We are very confident that his significant and broad expertise will help us further strengthen our position in Cayman," said Kevin Butler, partner and head of the Cayman Islands Office.

Stenson added: "I am extremely excited to be joining Conyers. The firm is highly regarded and has an unrivalled reputation in my areas of focus, so joining forces was an easy decision. I’m really looking forward to working with the team and contributing to the ongoing success of the firm."
