IRM appoints new technical director

The Institute of Risk Management has appointed Clive Thompson as its new technical director.

Thompson has 40 years’ experience in risk management. He started his career setting up and managing captive insurance companies in the Caymans with International Risk Management Group before its sale to Aon, for which he later worked. He also set up a number of specialist risk financing vehicles in Guernsey.

He then spent 18 years with Willis, most recently as a project director, and will continue working in a limited capacity for the firm.

Thompson also has experience with the professional body, having served as IRM deputy chair from 2015 to November 2020. He was also the founding chair of its Innovation Special Interest Group and served on its Governance and Audit Committees.

“I am looking forward to working on our various qualifications, helping all the Interest Groups where I can, and generally getting stuck in,” said Thompson of the new appointment.
