Three Nevada chambers of commerce to form AHP following new rules

Three Nevada-based chambers of commerce have partnered to form an association health plan (AHP), Clark County Health Plan Association, for their members.

The Henderson, Latin and Boulder City Chambers have teamed up with Health Plan of Nevada and Sierra Health and Life to create a health programme offering rate stability and solutions of businesses of 1-50 employees.

Health Plan of Nevada and Sierra Health and Life will provide participating businesses ten comprehensive Affordable Care Act-compliant plans with rates guaranteed until September 2020.

An AHP is  a group of small employers that have come together to replicate the profile of a much larger single entity - allowing the collective grouping to attain greater underwriting credibility, leading to enhanced pricing leverage and reduced administrative costs.

Earlier this year, the US Department of Labor (DOL) issued a proposed rule that provides direction to businesses seeking to create AHPs.  The more recent final rules are intended to deliver expanded options for more affordable healthcare plans to smaller employers, including self-employed individuals.
