Oregon welcomed 10 new captives in 2017 – but six also closed

The state of Oregon licensed ten new captives in 2017 – although six closed in the same period.

The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation revealed on its website that it licensed 10 new pure captive insurance companies in its year-end figures.

With six closing in the same period, the state was home to 14 captive insurance companies as of 31 December 2017.

Oregon first passed a captive insurance law in July 2012; it started accepting captive applications in the autumn of that year.

A spokesman from the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation said that the state is hoping for more growth in 2018.
