AXA XL unveils new senior captive underwriter

AXA XL has announced that Grace Xu (pictured) has joined its alternative risk solutions team as a senior underwriter for captives, based in Los Angeles.

Xu was previously at Starr Insurance, which she joined as a global operations tech interns in June 2023, based in Chicago, Illinois.  She became a full time associate underwriter in June 2024, still in Chicago, and then became an underwriter, captive reinsurance fronting in July 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

In her previous role she was responsible for assessing and analysing complex risks across multiple industries to determine appropriate reinsurance structures, designing and pricing reinsurance agreements that align with regulatory requirements, capital objectives, and long-term risk strategies and collaborating with captive managers, brokers, and actuaries to create alternative risk-transfer solutions tailored to the client.
