CIMA insurance head Ebanks leaves regulator

Kara Ebanks has left the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) to take up a new role as general manager at BAF Insurance Company Cayman.

Ebanks has spent over 19 years with CIMA, including the last three years as head of its insurance supervision division.

Prior to taking up that role she had spent more than two years as deputy head of the division. Both roles included oversight of the jurisdiction’s captive insurance companies.

During her time in these regulatory leadership roles, the number of captives in Cayman has continued to grow year on year, from 634 class B captives at the end of 2021 to 693 at H1 2026.

She has been a regular speaker at the Cayman Captive Forum on regulatory matters affecting captives – at last year’s meeting announcing CIMA was planning new insurance licencing categories.

BAF Cayman was formed in 2009 and is part of the BAF Global Group. It is licensed by the CIMA as an Class A insurance company and specifically approved to provide health insurance by the Health Insurance Commission.
