Looking back at your journey over the past year, what accomplishment are you most proud of, and how has becoming a FORTY Under 40 finalist influenced your perspective on that achievement?
Reflecting on the period from early 2025 to the present, the accomplishment I'm most proud of is contributing to the successful launch and early momentum of Synergix Re, our innovative “captive for captives” in the medical stop-loss space. As COO and CLO at Complete Captive Management Services, I played a central role in structuring this reinsurance-focused entity, which assumes excess layers of risk from existing group, reinsurance and direct-writer captives. This project represents real evolution in how employers and captives can collaborate to manage volatility more efficiently. Synergix Re is collaborative, forward-thinking and directly addresses pain points in risk distribution that I've been passionate about for years.
What key challenge did you face in your work this year? How did you overcome it, and what did it teach you about leadership at this stage of your career?
One of the most significant this year was the heightened regulatory and stakeholder alignment demands during the final push to operationalize Synergix Re as a Nevada-domiciled “captive for captives” in the medical stop-loss space.
The core difficulty lay in bridging innovative design with unyielding compliance; ensuring the excess-layer assumption structure demonstrated robust economic substance, genuine risk shifting/distribution, premium efficiency and solvency safeguard without alienating cautious stakeholders who prioritised control, transparency and profit retention.
This challenge taught me critical lessons about leadership at this point in my career. As someone who's advanced quickly into dual roles (at Morella & Associates and at Complete Captive), I used to lean heavily on technical expertise and precision to drive outcomes. But leading in this collaborative, market-driven field demands more; the ability to translate dense regulatory nuances into compelling, stakeholder-aligned narratives, to listen actively to diverse perspectives (from risk-averse captives to innovative partners) and to lead with steady integrity when external pressures mount.
In what ways have you tried to push innovation or rethink traditional approaches within your sector, and what impact has that had on your team or organisation?
In the legal and captive insurance sectors, I’ve focused on integrating modern compliance tools, streamlined client onboarding and tech-enabled risk management solutions to make captive formation and ongoing administration more efficient and accessible. For instance, rethinking the one-size-fits-all approach to captives by emphasising highly customised, compliant structures that leverage data analytics for better risk prediction has helped clients reduce costs and improve coverage in ways other models often overlook.
I’m excited to lead initiatives that educate and empower more businesses to adopt captives as a tool for financial resilience.
How do you see your role evolving over the next three to five years, and what initiatives are you most excited to pursue as you continue to grow professionally?
Over this period, I see my role shifting from hands-on COO/CLO to more of a strategic visionary and mentor, guiding firm-wide innovation while expanding our influence in the captive insurance space nationally. With the rapid changes in regulatory landscapes (e.g., around alternative risk financing), I’m excited to lead initiatives that educate and empower more businesses to adopt captives as a tool for financial resilience.
Many of the FORTY Under 40 winners are recognised for both business success and broader impact – how do you balance professional excellence with contributions to your community or industry landscape?
Balancing professional excellence with community and industry impact comes down to intentional integration rather than separation. My work in corporate law and captives inherently creates broader value, helping businesses protect assets and manage risks more effectively supports jobs, economic stability, and community growth in Western Pennsylvania and beyond.
On the community side, as a resident of Pittsburgh, PA with my husband and three young boys, I prioritise local involvement through organisations that foster personal connections, family support and professional networking, whether volunteering with local and national organizations or participating in events via the Allegheny County Bar Association or various women’s groups in the Pittsburgh area.
In the industry, my recognition as a FORTY Under 40 finalist by Captive International motivates me to give back by mentoring emerging professionals, sharing insights on compliance and innovation and contributing to leadership that raises standards for ethical, client-focused captive management.
