FORTY under 40: Anne Ritts

Anne Ritts, assistant vice president, PNC Institutional Asset Management

Anne Ritts entered the captive insurance industry in June 2023, when she joined PNC's insurance solutions group. She is an assistant vice president and works alongside commercial and captive insurance companies, identifying customised investment solutions to fit each organisation’s needs. Prior to 2023, she spent two years as an analyst within PNC Private Bank. She feels strongly that her previous years of experience has helped her succeed in her role today.

How did you first become involved in captive insurance?

In early 2023, an opportunity was placed in front of me to join PNC's insurance solutions group. I took it, knowing there would be a learning curve, and ran with it. As soon as I joined, I dived right into the captive industry and tried my best to gain connections with industry leaders. Shortly after attending my first captive insurance conference, I became a CICA member and joined two Amplify Women subcommittees. I also signed up to take classes for the associate in captive insurance (ACI) designation. Almost two years later and I am so glad that I became heavily involved in captive insurance. I am now the Amplify Women networking subcommittee chair, and I received my ACI designation this past December. Captive insurance opened a door full of new opportunities for my professional development.

What are the greatest challenges of working in this industry, and what do you find most rewarding?

Some challenges I have found is recruiting more young professionals that also have an interest in captive insurance asset management. The needs of this industry continue to grow, and it would excite me to find more young professionals that would like to choose this field as a career path. The industry is very niche and highly specialised, but that is also what I find most rewarding about working within it. I take pride in having expertise in the niche field of captive asset management.

Would you recommend the captive insurance industry to young people as a future career path?

Yes, I would. The captive insurance industry continues to grow and evolve. The atmosphere is great for young professionals that are eager to learn, and there are many ways to get involved in the captive insurance industry as a young professional; CICA Amplify Women and NEXTGen.

What developments do you see ahead for captives?

I am excited about the recent developments where companies are using captives to terminate or derisk pension plans. Captives are an efficient tool for risk mitigation, and it is exciting to hear of several companies exploring this option.

Do you think your long-term future remains in the captives market?

Yes. I truly enjoy my job and like the people I interact with in the captives market. I love that it is an ever-changing industry, and I am always learning something new!
