Maritime cyber risk insurer Astaara makes three hires

Astaara, the maritime cyber risk management specialist insurer, has hired Gemma Smyth, Asti Rogers and Victoria Knowles.

Smyth takes on the role of head of analytics, with Rogers and Knowles becoming head of operations and chief of staff, respectively.

Smyth has a background in risk and reinsurance and has worked for the past decade in catastrophe analytics for Lloyd’s syndicates. She is experienced in catastrophe modelling, developing methodologies for assessing and aggregating cyber risk in the marine sector.

Rogers has spent more than 10 years working in the London insurance market, initially in project management and then from 2015 in operations. Her last three roles have all focused on developing the operation function at new start-ups, including Lloyd’s syndicates and MGAs.

Knowles has more than 20 years’ experience in administration across the property, public relations and insurance sectors. She has worked as a national advertising coordinator for a large national real estate company and as a PA to C-suite executives in a cross-section of industries.

Robert Dorey, chief executive of Astaara, said the hires gave a “fantastic boost to an already strong team,” stressing the complementary nature of their skills.
