Aon has appointed Jon Wiegand as head of power in the UK global broking centre (GBC).
Wiegand will take up his post in October and will report to James MacNeal, managing director of construction and power.
He has nearly 20 years of insurance experience and has worked in the power, construction and energy sectors in the US and London. He joins from Swiss Re, where he was most recently head of engineering and construction, having started his career as an industry oil and gas engineer.
Wiegand will work closely with Guido Benz, Aon’s recently appointed global renewable energy leader, who is joining in May, and Carol Stark who was recently appointed US renewable energy leader.
He will serve within Aon’s global energy transition group, a partnership between the power and energy businesses that is led by Euan Nicolson, global chief commercial officer of Aon’s energy speciality. The integrated group works with Aon’s global renewables network to develop sustainable risk solutions for clients involved in energy transition.
James MacNeal, managing director of GBC construction and power at Aon, said: “The power industry is a key focus for Aon, and our offering is underpinned by market-leading technical and specialty capabilities.”
