BILTIR appoints Somerset Re’s Selkirk to its board

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has appointed Scott Selkirk to its board of directors.

Selkirk, who is chief underwriting officer at Somerset Re, has served BILTIR as the chair of its strategy committee. He has been based in Bermuda since 2007, and was previously head of pricing at Standard Life of Canada’s Bermuda branch.

Selkirk said: “Through the hard work of the BILTIR board, and the many active members of its committees, we will continue to advocate for our members to ensure the impactful work being done in this industry continues to be a local and international success story."

Sylvia Oliveira, BILTIR’s chair, praised Selkirk’s contributions to BILTIR, highlighting in particular his work leading BILTIR’s annual conference since its inception and his role instituting and coordinating the Cedarbridge math tutoring programme.

She pointed to Selkirk’s “vast reinsurance experience, his principled and affable manner, and his consistent high-level dedication to BILTIR” as attributes that will make him an effective board member.
