Gallagher Re taps Hiscox cyber director as its expands team

Liz Kim, cyber reinsurance broker, Gallagher Re

Gallagher Re has hired Hiscox director of cyber underwriting Liz Kim. Kim joins the brokers more than 40-strong cyber reinsurance teams across New York, Bermuda and London. Based in San Francisco, she will support and service US West Coast clients and work closely with the wider US-based team, Gallagher Re said.

Kim was with Hiscox for more than 12 years. Starting her career as an attorney with Portland-based legal practice Bullivant Houser Bailey, she began at Hiscox as senior claims counsel and then principal underwriting counsel and head of product innovation and development. She was appointed group director of cyber underwriting in August 2018.

Ian Newman, global head of cyber at Gallagher Re, said: “Liz’s 15 years of industry experience are as broad as they are deep, spanning underwriting strategy, product development and coverage, alongside exposure management, legal and claims. She is a recognised name within the cyber market, and we are thrilled to welcome her into our team.

“Our customer base is growing rapidly in size and spreading across territories, and we strive to stay close to them. So Liz brings not only a wealth of complementary skills and experience from the wider cyber market but a natural extension onto the West Coast of our on-the-ground cyber reinsurance specialisms.

“Most importantly though, in this specialist line, our focus is always competency-led. It is clear Liz’s experiences, and expertise will add significant value to our cyber consultancy and cyber analytics practices and, as a consequence, our customers.”
