MSL Captive Solutions snares Steve McFarland

MSL Captive Solutions (MSL), the specialist underwriting and consulting services firm, has hired Steve McFarland as managing director.

McFarland joins Phillip Giles as a co-head of MSL, which was formed at the beginning of the year, with a focus on serving single-parent and group medical stop loss captives. He is primarily responsible for directing the firms underwriting and administrative services.

McFarland was previously a vice president for specialty markets at a stop loss carrier where he managed the underwriting and product support for the captive business team. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry, having been involved in medical stop loss captives since the mid-90s. He spent 11 years with AIG as a regional director of underwriting and vice president of specialty markets.

Giles described McFarland as “a leading expert in stop loss captives,” predicting he will bring “an exceptional level of technical expertise and insight to MSL Captive Solutions.”

McFarland said: “This is a growing market and we believe there are significant opportunities for an independent underwriting service supporting medical stop loss captives.”
