Nebraska Insurance Department appoints new solvency watchdog

The Nebraska Department of Insurance has appointed a new chief financial regulator. Lindsay Crawford will oversee the department’s financial regulation team responsible for monitoring Nebraska-licensed insurance companies’ financial solvency.

Crawford has been with the department for over 14 years, joining as an intern in 2008 before working as a financial analyst, reinsurance specialist and, most recently, deputy chief examiner. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance.

“When I started as a premium tax intern in 2008, I planned on a short three-month internship and never would have imagined becoming the chief financial regulator,” said Crawford.

“I understand the importance of this role and am proud to begin leading one of the best financial solvency teams in the country. The department has had a long reputation as being a responsible regulator, and I am confident we will continue to approach important solvency issues with a consistent and balanced approach.”
