Self-Insurance Defence Coalition coordinates lobbying

The Self-Insurance Institute of America announced that a Self-Insurance Defence League (SIDL) has been formed to coordinate lobbying, litigation and media relations activities of leading national trade associations.

The group will aid its members with the legislative, regulatory and legal issues arising from the running of self-insured group health plans at both the national and state levels.

The formation of the SIDL was prompted by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the potential regulation associated with the bill and the threat of policies that might make it more difficult or costly to self-insure. In addition, the SIDC is concerned that policymakers might see self-insured health plans as revenue sources to be tapped for government health care-related spending.

Founding members include the US Chamber of Commerce and the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers. To learn more visit the Self-Insurance Institute of America’s website here
