VCIA to hold its annual conference virtually for second year in 2021

The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) will hold its August 2021 annual conference virtually.

VCIA admitted that while the conference remains ten months away, it wanted to make an early decision to meet hotel and meeting space contractual obligations and to give it maximum time to prepare the conference.

VCIA is the world’s largest trade association for captive insurance, with its annual event regularly drawing 1,000 people. Feedback from member organisations highlighted concerns around travel restrictions in 2021, while many companies have reduced budgets for in-person events, VCIA said.

Rich Smith, president of the VCIA, said it would like to hold a physical event but noted uncertainties around whether a large-scale in-person conference would be possible in 2021. The virtual format made the event accessible for all members who wish to participate, he said.

“We will build on the success of the 2020 event, keep the quality of the education as high as ever, and increase opportunities for people to connect in small group-video settings during the event,” added Smith.

Smith promised the VCIA will hold another physical annual conference “as soon as it makes sense.”

The 2021 event will be the VCIA’s 36th annual event.
