Insurance leaders pay tribute to Brian Thompson
A leading US captive insurance broker has paid tribute to Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare chief executive officer who was murdered in New York City yesterday.
A manhunt is underway for the killer of Thompson, who was attending an investor day session for parent company UnitedHealth when he was shot in the street by a masked gunman.
Dan Keough, chairman and chief executive officer of Holmes Murphy, said: “I, along with our entire Holmes Murphy team, are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of Brian Thompson, a highly respected leader in the insurance industry.
“His loss is felt profoundly, not only by those who knew him personally but by the entire industry.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire UnitedHealth Group/UnitedHealthcare team during this incredibly difficult time.”
Keough’s tribute was part of an outpouring of praise for Thompson on LinkedIn and other social media, with employees of Evolve Healthcare, Microsoft, Navitus Healthcare and many others expressing their shock at his death.
In a statement, UnitedHealth Group said: ““We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare.
“Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him. We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
“Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and all who were close to him.”
