CICA launches 2016 webinar series
The US-based Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) is kicking off its new 2016 webinar Series with a repeat of its Small Captives: As The World Turns session from the 2016 CICA International Conference in March.
The webinar is scheduled for 12-1pm, CT, on April 21. It will cover how and why navigating business and captive ownership rules effectively is vital to the successful use of the Internal Revenue Code 831 (b) election for small captives.
Presenting at the webinar will be: Daniel Kusaila, tax partner, Crowe Horwath; Charles Lavelle, senior partner, Bingham Greenbaum Doll; Tim Tarter, captive insurance tax audit and litigation defense, Woolston & Tartar PC; and Anne Marie Towle, vice president and senior captive consultant, Willis Towers Watson Global Captive Practice.
The speakers at the webinar will cover the history and uses of small captives, provide clarity on current tax, premium and ownership rules, and share impacts of tax cases, amendments and other factors affecting the future of small captives.
Towle, who will be moderating and presenting, said: “People have many questions about the new legislation and they want to understand the grandfathering and structuring of a proper captive.
“Companies with small captives or considering starting a small captive also have many tax questions. Understanding Internal Revenue Service tax audits and what the agents look for in the audits helps people be better prepared.”
Dennis Harwick, CICA president, added: “Captives’ ability to anticipate opportunities and develop solutions to potential risks is more important than ever in today’s global economy where change occurs quickly and is often far-reaching.
“CICA’s new webinar series will provide the insights to help captives stay ahead of these important issues.”
