Berkley Accident and Health expands clinical support offering

Berkley Accident and Health (BAH) has expanded the capabilities of its clinical support platform, Berkley Edge, to help clients lower large claim costs and improve plan sponsors’ overall cost of health care.

BAH has added new clinical staff and invested greater resources to assist clients, and restructured the Berkley Edge team to serve clients more efficiently. It has also implemented a proactive review of all of its claims and notices for all clients, which it said will help identify client savings opportunities.

Group captives with 10 or more members will receive proactive, annual health risk strategy reviews to identify risk hot spots, with Berkley Edge recommending changes to improve overall health plan results.

BAH said it is increasingly difficult for employers to offer the best, most affordable health care benefits. BAH stop loss block data from 2013-2017 shows that the frequency of claims over $1 million has grown by more than 250 percent.

BAH provides accident and health insurance products including employer stop loss, group captives, managed care, including HMO reinsurance and provider excess, and specialty accident. It underwrites stop loss coverage through Berkley Life and Health Insurance Company. Berkley Edge is available at no additional cost to all stop loss, group captive and managed care clients.

Brad Nieland, president and CEO at BAH, said: “Berkley Edge has had a transformational impact on our clinical services program to being more than just a second set of eyes on large claims by offering proactive and programmatic analysis and expert advice.”
