Apollo hires Canopius pair as works to build its casualty treaty business
Specialist Lloyd’s re/insurer Apollo Syndicate Management has hired Paul Sandi to head development of its casualty treaty team within Syndicate 1969, subject to Lloyd’s approval.
Sandi joins Apollo from Canopius, where he was head of casualty treaty and created a new US casualty treaty portfolio. He was previously an underwriter at Liberty Syndicates, part of the team responsible for Lloyd’s largest North American casualty reinsurance book.
He’ll also be joined by his colleague underwriter Anthony Thurman, as Apollo seeks to build a “market-leading casualty team”. Thurman has been with Canopius Group for over a decade.
David Ibeson, Apollo Group CEO, said: “Paul is particularly experienced in optimising client needs while at the same time achieving profitable growth. This extensive experience will make him invaluable in building Apollo’s casualty treaty offering, and we are delighted to welcome both Paul and Anthony to the company.”
Paul Sandi said: “It is an exciting opportunity to join Apollo as it continues to build on its existing strong underwriting offering, increasing profitability and expanding strategically into its next stage of growth. Creating a new casualty treaty business will give brokers and clients a wider variety of choice, while current market conditions mean that this is an opportune time for expansion.”
