Captive Review’s 2025 Outstanding Contribution Award winner unveiled

At the end of a memorable awards evening in Vermont last night (Monday August 11), Captive Review also unveiled its much-anticipated 2025 Outstanding Contribution Award.

Industry veteran Mike Zuckerman (pictured) received a standing ovation at the event, as the audience celebrated a remarkable career.

Zuckerman has just retired from full-time teaching after 13 years as an associate professor at Temple University and is now Professor Emeritus.

During two spells at Temple University Zuckerman has taught risk management and captive insurance to many individuals that have gone on to work in the captive sector.

He began working on captives at Johnson & Higgins (now Marsh) after earning his MBA at Temple. From there, Zuckerman in 1987 became risk manager at Thomas Jefferson University and Health System, forming its Cayman-based captive in 1990. He later returned to broking with Aon, focusing on healthcare captives, before moving into full-time teaching in 2012.

His influence as an educator has been far-reaching, with former students now working at Munich Re, Guy Carpenter, Spring Consulting, and Marsh. Some he helped directly into their first roles.

In an exclusive interview with Captive Review, he said his hope was to “continue contributing to developing the next generation in any way that I can.” Read the full interview here.
