Profile:

Jurisdiction of choice
A successful offshore jurisdiction requires political and economic stability, tax neutrality, a responsive and fair legal system, a sound regulatory framework and highly skilled service providers. The Cayman Islands is recognised as a major international financial centre with leadership in a number of areas, including top international banking centre, the world's leading domicile for offshore hedge funds, the second largest captive insurance centre and a world leader in structured finance.

Captive insurance
The Cayman Islands is the second largest offshore centre for captive insurance with over 730 insurance licenses, and is the number one jurisdiction for healthcare captives. In addition to healthcare insurance, captives will also insure workers compensation and other risks. Grant Thornton Cayman specialises in the audit of captive insurance companies, from those insuring small groups of individuals to large single parent captives, group captives and SPCs. All of our partners, managers and audit seniors have considerable experience in this field and understand the issues facing captive insurance companies and the industry.

Investment funds
The interest in investment funds by sophisticated and high net worth investors has grown significantly over the past decade, and the Cayman Islands are the industry leader for new fund formations. There are currently over 11,000 funds registered in Cayman. Working closely with our member firms in the US and Ireland, Grant Thornton in the Cayman Islands currently audit over 350 investment and hedge funds covering a wide spectrum of structures, domiciles, legal, regulatory and accounting standards and investment strategies. We audit funds ranging in size from start-ups to well-established funds including single funds with net asset values in excess of US$37 billion. We also provide specialist financial reporting advisory services to asset managers with assets in excess of US$1 trillion.
