How did you become involved in captive insurance?

Jason Flaxbeard and Beecher Carlson/Brown & Brown gave me the opportunity to start in this space almost three years ago. It’s been a tremendous ride thus far and I am so grateful for the team welcoming me with open arms.

What are the biggest challenges of working in this industry, and what do you find most rewarding?

The biggest challenge often turns into the most rewarding aspect of the job and that is finding/developing new solutions for our clients to enhance their risk portfolios. Getting to be creative and bounce new ideas off our team and clients is so important.

“You get to be a true business partner with your client and help them protect their bottom line.”

Would you recommend the captive insurance industry to young people as a future career path?

It truly is one of the best segments in the insurance industry—whether the market is soft or hard, captives can be a solution. You get to be a true business partner with your client and help them protect their bottom line. Captives lead the way in the insurance industry and we help mould that future.

What developments do you see ahead for captives?

Captives are going to continue to be a part of the risk management discussion, and will be at the forefront of everyone’s minds in the years to come. It continues to be an innovative solution and the possibilities to use them in new ways seems endless.

Do you think your long-term future remains in the captives market?

Yes. With continued market volatility, captives will remain the centre point for many organisations’/businesses’ risk management strategies. The people in this industry are some of the nicest you will ever meet and the thought-leadership continues to develop and grow at every turn. It’s an exciting time to be a part of and I look forward to the many years to come.
