Carrick Group, a Bermuda-based non-life legacy insurer, which has acquired a number of captives in the past, has appointed an assistant vice-president, finance.
Armin De Weerdt (pictured) joins Carrick from Pillar Capital Management, a Bermuda-based specialist in collateralized reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment manager.
De Weerdt, previously an audit manager at KPMG Bermuda, will be responsible for preparing financial forecasts and reports, evaluating financial performance, driving process improvements, and supporting both reinsurance and acquisition transactions.
In September 2024, Carrick acquired two Ireland-based captives from Bristol-Myers Squibb: BMS International Insurance and Seamair Insurance.
“I am delighted to welcome a financial professional of Armin’s calibre to Carrick,” said Devin O’Malley, chief financial officer at Carrick. “We are strongly committed to Bermuda, and are looking to grow our presence on the island by recruiting further financial and actuarial personnel to support Carrick’s continued growth.”
De Weerdt is the company’s first full-time employee on the island. Carrick has two Bermuda-based independent non-executive directors.
“I am excited to join Carrick at this important time as the business expands,” said De Weerdt. “Carrick offers efficient legacy solutions that are attractive to insurance companies, and I look forward to supporting the business as we grow.”
