Mead opens VCIA with bullish evaluation of captives sector growth
Kevin Mead, chief executive of the VCIA, formally opened the Vermont Captive Insurance Association’s 2024 conference in Burlington Vermont with a bullish assessment of the strength and growth of the captive insurance sector in the US this year.
Speaking to the assembled attendees Mead said that so far, up to the third quarter of the year, 2024 so far looks like a strong year for the captive market, with Vermont leading the way.
Mead thanked exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers and stressed that without them the conference would not have been the success that it has been so far.
He was followed by Tracy Hasset, VCIA Board Chair, who was closing her second year in the post. She thanked staff for their very hard work in making sure that the conference has gone off without a hitch and praised the first timers who were attending.
She said that there have been 1,076 attendees registered at this year’s conference so far, with the final numbers still to come, from 44 states and 9 countries.
Hasset added that VCIA has now started a strategic planning process that will focus on strengths and opportunities. Feedback from attendees vital for making the conference even better in the future.
Mitch Cantor celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of ICCIE and awarded ICCIE-related diplomas to several recent graduates. He stressed that ICCIE education is critical now due to the high number of people retiring.
Finally, three people were presented with VCIA awards: Aaron Ciullo of Marsh Captive Solutions was given the VCIA Captive Crusader award; Jamie Feehan of Primmer Piper Egglestone and Cramer was presented with the Industry Service Award; and finally, Derick White, who retires from the VCIA board this year, was given the Honorary Member award.
