MGAA hails a year of progress
The Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA) has released its 2026 Annual Report, highlighting what it described as ‘a year of increased regulatory engagement, strong member participation and continued growth across the MGA community.
Covering the period from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026, the report reflects the MGAA’s expanding role in representing and supporting the delegated underwriting sector as MGAs continue to attract risk and investment capital and strengthen their position within brokers’ placement strategies.
Membership continued to grow across all three tiers during the year:
• MGA Members: rising from 249 to 270
• Market Practitioners: increasing from 68 to 76
• Supplier Members: growing from 152 to 162
The report also highlights increased engagement across the Association’s programme of events, learning and market insight. The MGAA delivered 53 Professional Optics sessions during the year, up from 43, attracting 4,638 registrations and attendees, with average registrations per session increasing by 38%. The Annual Conference attracted more than 1,300 delegates, alongside successful Broker Exchange events in Leeds and London.
MGAA Conversations continued to expand its reach, with 15 new episodes generating more than 8,300 downloads and views. Discussions covered some of the most important issues facing the sector, including market performance, regulatory change, artificial intelligence, automation, counterparty risk and the evolving broker-MGA ecosystem.
The Association also further strengthened its regulatory engagement during the year, with the Financial Conduct Authority participating directly in MGAA Compliance Insights sessions. Members had the opportunity to engage with Lisa Sturley, Director of Insurance at the FCA, and her team, gaining first-hand insight into regulatory priorities and contributing to constructive dialogue on issues affecting the sector.
Michael Keating, chief executive of the MGAA, said: “Shaping the Future of Delegated Underwriting reflects both the continued evolution of the MGA market and the role our members are playing in driving that change. As the sector grows and evolves, the MGAA remains laser-focused on ensuring our members have the latest insights into our sector’s rapidly evolving landscape, increased opportunities for stakeholder networking, and the relevant UK and European representation they need to succeed.
“Our stronger engagement with the FCA is an important part of that, ensuring the MGA voice is heard and giving members greater opportunity to engage directly on the regulatory issues affecting their businesses.
“Looking ahead, our comprehensive membership research project will help shape our priorities and investment over the next 24 months, ensuring the MGAA continues to evolve in line with the needs and ambitions of our members.”
