AGCS promotes Portevin to lead its global risk consulting unit

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) has appointed Thierry Portevin as global head of Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC).

Portevin is currently global head of property at AGCS. In his new role, which he assumes from March 8, 2021, he will lead a global team of 280 employees, reporting to chief underwriting officer for corporate, Tony Buckle.

Portevin succeeds Tina Baacke, who previously led ARC but left AGCS at the end of 2020. Elizaveta Krieg, the global practice group leader for base industries, will lead the global property underwriting team on an interim basis until a permanent successor is confirmed.

Portevin became AGCS’s global head of property in 2016, before which he was global head of engineering for AGCS, a post he held between May 2012 and August 2016.

He started his career as an engineering and construction project manager for organisations including the National Institute for Ocean Science in France, and Jacobs, joining Allianz France in 2000 as engineering underwriting portfolio manager for France. He joined AGCS as engineering underwriting manager for France in 2007.

Buckle described the ARC team as “absolutely central to both exposure assessment in underwriting as well as risk mitigation for our clients.”

He added: “As we leverage third party data and Insurtech in our core business, [Portevin] will ensure we adapt to the new risks our clients are facing and continue to offer market-leading solutions.”
