Artex acquires Texas-based EWI Re

Artex Risk Solutions has acquired Dallas-based EWI Re.

EWI Re offers reinsurance program design and placement services for captives and mutual insurance companies, run-off and legacy solutions and safety and loss control services. Its specialty risk management business specifically caters to large institutions with demanding insurance needs.

EWI Re is run by Steve McElhiney, the chairman of the board Chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association. He now reports to Jennifer Gallagher, president of Artex’s North American operations.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Gallagher said the acquisition expands Artex’s ability to provide complex single-parent captive solutions to its clients.

McElhiney said: “We are excited to join Artex and create additional synergy around the development of comprehensive risk management solutions for large, individual risk clients.”
