Berkshire Hathaway hires casualty lead in UK

Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite, head of casualtym BHSI

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has appointed Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite as head of general casualty in the UK.

Alder-Smurthwaite joins from Chubb, where she spent 12 years, most recently serving as London corporate casualty manager. She has more than two decades of underwriting experience, spanning a range of customers, including corporate and large multinational captive accounts.

Alder-Smurthwaite began her career on the claims side of the business at Gerling Insurance.

Hilary Browne, head of casualty, UK & Europe, said: “She will play a pivotal leadership role in bringing BHSI’s bespoke coverage, financial stability and service excellence to customers across the UK and around the globe, and it is my pleasure to welcome her to our UK team.”
