North Carolina reaches 200 captives landmark

North Carolina has 585 licensed or approved captives of cells/series but also numerous license application and cell business plans pending for year-end approval that will boost these numbers next year.

That is according to deputy insurance commissioner Debbie Walker. She said that the North Carolina Department of Insurance has licensed 200 captive insurers, having just licenced the 200th vehicle, and approved 385 cells/series, though she noted that some of those are no longer active. That gives the state a total of 585 licensed or approved regulated entities.

She added: “We have numerous license application and cell business plans pending for year-end approval. We will provide an update to our numbers during the first quarter of 2018.”
