UE appoints new VP for human resources & diversity position
United Educators (UE) Insurance has named Alicia Williams as vice president of people and culture. The role includes leadership of Human Resources and UE’s Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance (IDEA), a grassroots workplace change initiative.
The newly formed department will help UE continue growing as an innovative workplace providing risk management and insurance for education. UE provides liability insurance and risk management services to about 1,600 members representing K-12 schools, colleges, and universities throughout the United States. Founded in 1987 as a risk retention group, UE is owned and governed by the institutions it insures.
“UE’s distinguishing assets are its people and culture,” said Richard Mills, UE’s president and chief executive. “Alicia is the perfect fit for this new role. She’s a strategic thinker and superb communicator who delivers results by engaging our dynamic workforce.”
Williams joined UE in 2013. As a senior counsel in the claims resolutions department, she managed catastrophic injury and sexual misconduct litigation involving UE members in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In 2021, Alicia was promoted to lead a team of analysts who manage personal injury and employment claims.
Prior to joining UE, Williams spent 10 years litigating tort and breach of contract cases at the trial and appellate level. She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Evelyn Omega Cannon.
