The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) will host a webinar on April 21 to present the winner of its student essay contest.
The webinar, which will go live at 12pm Eastern, will include presentations from the top three finalist teams, outlining their plans to use captives to help fictional organisations in real-world emerging industries.
Marissa Dias and Samantha Kane from Saint Joseph’s University are presenting on how captives can help the home healthcare industry, while Magda Olivas Carmona and Rudy Martinez of St. Mary’s University will present a plan for craft brewing. Megan Moore and Natalie Kojababian from the University of Southern California will present on how captives can assist the cannabis industry.
The contest is sponsored by Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS), and Jonathan Stark, director at SRS, will moderate presentations and a panel discussion with the top three teams. CICA president Dan Towle will announce the winning team, which will receive a cash prize of $2,500. The second and third placed teams will win $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, on April 22 SRS will also host a webinar examining captive insurance responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar, at 1pm Eastern, will involve a panel including Brady Young, president of SRS, Joel Chansky, principal and consulting actuary at Milliman and Read Davis, president at McGriff, Seibels & Williams.
