VCIA unveils new president as Mead steps down

The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) has unveiled its new president, in an announcement made during the organisation’s 40th annual conference, taking place in Burlington, Vermont, this week.

The board unveiled Ian Davis (pictured) as its new president, replacing Kevin Mead, who has held the president and CEO role since 2022. He officially takes the reins on 1 September. He is senior vice president, captive insurance at M&T Bank.

Davis has almost 10 years’ experience in the captive industry. He has served on the VCIA board for the last two years and on the conference and legislative committees and as chair of the annual conference. He also co-led development of VCIA’s 2025 strategic plan.

Davis’ mother, Lisa Ventriss, was the first full-time president of VCIA from 1997 to 2002.

“Next year marks 10 years I’ve been in the captive industry,” Davis said.

He also addressed the family connection: “My mother, Lisa Ventress, was the first full-time president of VCIA, serving from 1997 to 2002. Standing here today feels like a full-circle moment.”

Paying tribute to Mead’s tenure, Davis said, “Kevin’s leadership has guided VCIA through a transformative chapter, and the exceptional staff he brought together will continue to shape its future.” He pledged to lead with “transparency, collaboration and purpose,” urging members to engage actively with the association. “VCIA thrives on engagement, not only at this conference but throughout the year,” he emphasised. “Whether you’ve been a member for decades or are just beginning your journey, your voice matters here.”

Davis concluded by looking forward: “As we celebrate VCIA’s 40th anniversary, let’s not just honour our past. Let’s build our future. The next 40 years begin now, and they will be defined by the ideas, initiative and engagement of this incredible community.”
