McGill head of energy Fillingham passes away

McGill & Partners has announced that head of energy Tim Fillingham passed away on 13th May 2023. He had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a progressive condition for which there is no current cure.

Fillingham started his career with Andrew Weir Insurance Brokers, then joined Alexander Howden, subsequently becoming part of Aon, where he spent nearly 25 years, focussing on Energy risks both onshore and offshore. In 2000, he was appointed chairman of the Natural Resources Division of Aon.

Fillingham was part of the team that initiated the project plan to create a new start-up insurance company in 2007, which ultimately became Torus. He served in a multitude of roles, progressing from chief marketing officer, to chief operating officer and ultimately as chief executive, then under the StarStone Underwriting banner.

He joined McGill and Partners in October 2019 as head of energy, before stepping down from his work duties at the end of 2022.

In a statement on LinkedIn McGill & Partners said: “We join with Tim’s colleagues and friends across the industry, and beyond, in sending our sincerest condolences to Tim’s family at this most difficult time. Both the company and the industry have lost an inspiring colleague of great character. He will be truly missed.”

Tributes to Fillingham have been pouring in to McGill & Partner’s LinkedIn page with the announcement of Fillingham’s death. Captive International sends its deepest condolences to Fillingham’s family and many friends.
