HDI expands London energy & power presence

HDI Global UK & Ireland (HDI) has announced that it is significantly expanding its presence in the London energy & power insurance market, reinforcing its stated ambition to become a recognised lead market for brokers and clients while underlining its long-term commitment to the sector.

The move builds on the recent appointment of Matthew Bond (pictured right) as head of energy & power and forms part of a broader strategy to enhance HDI’s coordinated energy & power offering across its key hubs, including London, Singapore, Dubai and Houston. According to HDI London will serve as a central pillar of this strategy, reflecting its position as the world’s leading energy insurance market.

HDI is actively investing in underwriting, claims and risk engineering capabilities in London. This includes the recent appointment of Dave Wilson as global head of energy claims, alongside the relocation of experienced underwriters from within the HDI Group, including Ferhat Aclan from Hanover. In addition, HDI is also in advanced stages of recruitment for multiple roles within the energy & power team.

The expanded London team will support a comprehensive energy & power proposition spanning upstream, midstream and downstream energy, conventional and renewable power generation, as well as associated construction risks. This breadth of coverage, combined with HDI’s global network, fronting capabilities, international programmes and captives services, will offer brokers and clients a new and differentiated service.

As part of this build-out, HDI is focused on establishing itself as a meaningful market in London, providing brokers with greater access to high-quality underwriting, technical expertise and claims capability.

Bond said: “We are bringing together HDI’s long-established global energy & power expertise into a more visible and accessible London platform. Our ambition is to be a meaningful and long term partner in transformation – by investing in underwriting, claims and risk engineering, we are building a proposition that goes beyond capacity and delivers real value to brokers and clients.”

Simon Hunt (pictured left), interim chief executive, HDI Global UK & Ireland, added: “Expanding our Energy & Power presence in London is a key strategic priority for HDI. The investments we are making in talent and capability demonstrate our intent to support brokers with high-quality lead market capacity and technical expertise.”
