McGill & Partners mulls captive management move

McGill & Partners is considering establishing a captive management operation in London, dependent on the final form of the UK’s much-anticipated captive insurance legislation.

That’s according to Stephen Cross, head of strategy and innovation at the London market broker, speaking to sister title Captive Review last month.

Cross said the broker has been vocal in its support of the UK bringing forward a domestic captive framework and has already indicated its interest in playing a direct role in the market if the legislation proves compelling.

“McGill & Partners have made a statement quite publicly when we first heard about the potential for the UK bringing forward captive legislation that we would like to set up a captive management operation centred in London,” Cross said.

To date, McGill & Partners has deliberately avoided operating as a captive manager, instead working closely with independent managers across established domiciles. Any move into captive management would represent a strategic shift rather than a volume-driven expansion, Cross stressed.
