AIG sharing economy head joins Marsh to lead expanded practice

Insurance broker Marsh has appointed Robert Bauer to lead its US sharing economy and mobility practice.

Based in San Francisco, he will focus on developing and delivering products and services to companies operating in the sharing economy. The practice originally focused on the sharing economy, but has more recently been expanded to include mobility.

Bauer will work with Marsh's digital, data and analytics team, and will report to Jeffrey Alpaugh, growth and industry leader for Marsh's US and Canada Division.

From a captive insurance perspective, Bauer will be working closely with Marsh Captive Solutions in developing innovative solutions to meet the needs of clients.

Bauer joins from AIG, where he served as general insurance head of innovation and its sharing economy group.

“Marsh continues to invest in top talent to help clients proactively address emerging risks from participating in the sharing economy and autonomous mobility industry. With Rob joining Marsh, we will be even better positioned to advise clients on solutions and strategies needed to address this dynamic sector’s evolving risk landscape," said Alpaugh.

Bauer added: “For the founders, funders, and participants in the new economy, good risk management and well-structured insurance is critical to their long-term success. I’m looking forward to working with Marsh’s industry-leading team of experts to deliver innovative solutions to our clients.”
