Promotions at the New Hampshire Insurance Department

New Hampshire Insurance Department (NHID) has promoted Jason Dexter to assistant commissioner and Michelle Heaton to director of life and health, which Dexter previously held.

Dexter joined the department in 2019 and has led several initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. His time as director of life and health was instrumental in driving market regulation, form and rate compliance, and healthcare analytics, according to the department.

He joined the department from the Division of Risk & Benefits at the Department of Administrative Services and previously held roles with Sentry Insurance Company and Allstate Insurance Company.

Heaton also joined the department in 2019 as an administrative hearings judge and subsequently was its health law and policy legal counsel. She previously served almost six years as an attorney in the Administrative Prosecutions Unit at the New Hampshire Department of Justice. In her new role, she will ensure the department’s adherence to administrative and ethical rules and drive initiatives to protect consumers and promote a competitive insurance marketplace.

“We are thrilled to announce the promotions of Jason Dexter and Michelle Heaton,” said commissioner DJ Bettencourt. “Jason and Michelle have demonstrated exceptional leadership, expertise, and dedication throughout their careers with the New Hampshire Insurance Department. I am confident that they will excel in their new roles and continue to drive our mission of protecting consumers and ensuring a robust insurance marketplace in New Hampshire.”
