Bermuda Captive Conference 2022 details unveiled

The Bermuda Captive Conference is returning to the live stage on September 12–14, 2022 at the Hamilton Princess in Bermuda.

Now in its 18th year, the conference returns as a hybrid event, and will examine trends in the global captive market, bringing together industry professionals for thought leadership, education and connectivity. The conference will feature educational sessions, keynote speakers, interactive discussions and opportunities to reconnect and network.

For the first time since 2019, delegates will have the opportunity to return to a live event format, alongside corporate risk managers and captive owners, insurance managers, insurance brokers and service providers. For those who are not able to attend in person, the event will also be streamed virtually via an interactive online platform.

This year’s theme is Fusion, celebrating the momentum and synergy of the newly-launched Bermuda Captive Network that the Bermuda Captive Conference now falls under. The new organisation brings expanded membership and more diverse thought leadership to the table, and will offer to the conference cutting-edge panel discussions with a wide variety of dynamic speakers at the event.

The conference also marks the Bermuda captive industry's 60th anniversary and will feature interviews from a range of captive owners, as they reflect on the experience, depth and innovation of Bermuda’s captive industry. The conference opens with a kick-off session to celebrate this milestone, reflecting on Bermuda’s growth and impact in the captive industry across the last 60 years.

Other sessions will include a discussion on the post-pandemic landscape, risk management and the cost of capital, exploring legacy cell issues, reinsurance partnership with captives, a deep-dive on the Latin American markets and a review of BEPS, LOC issues and ESG opportunities.

On Tuesday September 13, Bermuda Captive Conference chair Leslie Robinson will host the Captive Hall of Fame awards, recognising captive owner recipients from the last three years. The ceremony will also include the announcement of the 2022 Fred Reiss Lifetime Achievement Award, an accolade created to celebrate Bermuda figures who have had an outstanding impact on the captive insurance industry.

Robinson commented: “The commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Bermuda captive industry holds extra significance for both the Fred Reiss Lifetime Achievement award and Bermuda’s Captive Hall of Fame awards. These awards were created to reflect the evolution and impact of Bermuda’s globally important insurance market, highlighting the spirit of innovation which saw the world’s first captives established on the island in the early 1960s.

“We extend our sincere thanks to these long-standing Bermuda captive owners, and we also recognize the committed contributions that Bermuda’s industry titans have made to help build and grow Bermuda’s captive industry into the mature domicile we see today.”
