Lauren Gregory, creator of New York’s first captive, joins Alliant

Lauren Gregory, one of the creators of New York’s first ever captive insurance company, has joined Alliant Insurance Services as senior vice president in the Alliant specialty group, serving public entities.

Gregory leads Alliant’s public entity unit, focusing on public entity and infrastructure and enhancing the carrier’s service to East Coast-based public agencies and developing new public entity and construction clients. She is based in New York.

Gregory is a former director of risk and insurance management at the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and served as president of the MTA’s captive from 2003.

More recently she was executive vice president and construction team leader at Willis Towers Watson. In that role she worked closely with the world’s largest port authority and some of the largest public entities in the US, including the MTA.

She has also served as senior vice president of a risk management consulting firm where she specialised in captives.

Michael Cusack, co-chief operating officer of Alliant’s specialty business, noted Alliant’s strong position in the West Coast public entity market, and said Gregory’s appointment advances its capabilities in the East.

Gregory’s “extensive risk management experience, legal background, and underwriting knowledge adds significant fire power to our team in New York,” Cusack added.

Dan Howell, managing director of Alliant’s public entity business, described Gregory as “one of the preeminent public entity authorities in the industry.”
