Volante Global appoints Demian Smith as CEO

Volante Global, a multi-class, multi-territory international Lloyd’s Syndicate and Managing General Agent (MGA) owned by global fintech Acrisure, has announced the appointment of Demian Smith (pictured) to the role of chief executive, Volante Global.

The company said that Smith has enjoyed a longstanding and broad career in the (re)insurance industry having started his career in 1995 and has successfully built and transformed businesses across both the broking and underwriting sides of the market. Smith’s track record for leading change whilst building collaborative and high performing teams will be invaluable as Volante continues to mature and grow its global MGA and syndicate platform, it added.

Smith joins Volante Global from Guy Carpenter where he was head of mutual, agency and captive solutions and co-head of strategic partnerships for the past five years. Prior to Guy Carpenter, Smith was chief executive of StarStone Group.

Martin Reith, chairman and Interim chief executive, will remain as chairman and work closely with Demian. Commenting on the appointment, Reith said: “I am delighted to welcome Demian to Volante Global. His experience and previous career made him an ideal candidate to succeed me as CEO. I have very much enjoyed working with colleagues at Volante Global and look forward to continuing that journey as chairman.”

Smith said: “I am thrilled to be joining Volante Global at such a pivotal moment in its journey.   The depth of talent across the organisation is impressive, and I look forward to working closely with colleagues around the world to help unlock even more value.”

Smith’s appointment is subject to current contractual obligations and regulatory approval.
