Kappes joins RWE as head of insurance

Udo Kappes has been appointed head of insurance at RWE AG, a German multinational energy company headquartered in Essen that generates and trades electricity in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States.

Kappes announced in September that he was stepping down as head of property & casualty, financial lines, group employee programs, reinsurance at Airbus Aeroassurances, but did not reveal where he was moving to.

Kappes was at Airbus for more than two decades, having been appointed head of property insurances & reinsurance at Airbus Insurance Risk Management in February 2001. In 2016 he was appointed head of property & casualty, financial lines, group employee programs & reinsurance, again at Airbus Insurance Risk Management.

In 2018 he was appointed to the position he left at Airbus.

He remains the chairman of the European Captive Insurance and Reinsurance Owners Association.
