CICA reveals its 2025 student essay winners

The winners of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) 2024-2025 student essays have been announced at the opening session at the annual CICA conference, taking place this week in Tucson, Arizona.

University of Wisconsin-Madison students Rachel Claire Gibson & Ella Pernsteiner received first-place honours and a $2,500 prize in the contest, which is sponsored by Hylant Global Captive Solutions (Hylant GCS).

Second place went to Matthew Sharretts and Samuel Brockelman from Connecticut College with a $1,500 prize, and third place went to Isabella Martinez and Skilee Soto from St. Mary’s University with a $1,000 prize.

“I continue to be impressed with the development of the students’ captive knowledge as they progress through the essay contest process,” said CICA president Dan Towle as he announced the winners of the contest. “Their growing interest in captive insurance is exciting to witness as they take a deep dive into their essay contest case studies.”

Anne Marie Towle, chief executive of Global Risk & Captive Solutions, Hylant GCS, commented: “As the sponsor of the CICA Student Essay Contest, we are honoured to contribute to the growth and development of these students. This initiative aligns with Hylant’s commitment to fostering education and encouraging innovation in captive insurance, and we are proud to invest in our industry’s future leaders.”
